Only Lucky Dogs Theatre was formed in January 2018 to make unusual, absurd, and entertaining original theatre.
Since then we have created several shows, attended the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and performed in venues across Sheffield. Each show we make involves many more than just the five of us, drawing on the skills of creatives and technicians from Sheffield and across the UK.
We are determined to make theatre that intrigues audiences and investigates something new about humanity, mining the depths of characters that are, on the surface, ordinary. We want to make theatre which, no matter your background, you will recognise yourself within.
Who We Are
James, a published poet and writer, is responsible for the creation of Only Lucky Dogs’ original work; having written Beaker’s Place and A Few Short Studies on Cannibalism. James also wrote and directed monster, which was produced with the Sheffield University Theatre Company in 2018, and has acted in twelve plays and musicals across the UK over the past six years, performing in venues such as the Norwich Playhouse, Theatre Deli, and at the Redgrave Shakesbeer Festival in Suffolk.
Michael has been involved in over twenty theatre productions; directing, writing and acting in plays that have been performed at NSDF, the Edinburgh Fringe and in Sheffield. Michael directed our debut production Beaker’s Place and wrote and directed Mack Ribbe is Going to Die. As Artistic Director, he is responsible for the creation of OLD’s original work.
Pippa Le Grand
Pippa has worked with Sheffield University Theatre Company, Colla Voce Theatre, Redgrave Shakesbeer Festival and of course Only Lucky Dogs, in Sheffield and Edinburgh. She began producing in 2017 and has played an active role in many different cultural activities in Sheffield. She is the Marketing and Advertising Officer for A Younger Theatre and sits on the board of Directors at Portland Works. As producer, she liaises with fellow artists and venues, and local and national businesses and organises all Only Lucky Dogs's activities.
Isabel has been involved in the technical production of over 30 shows. She has worked in a variety of different venues around the UK, at NSDF, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Tobacco Factory, and Bristol Old Vic. As Technical Director, Isabel oversees the technical managing and planning of all events at the Makerspace.
